An adjustable dressform is an indispensable tool for both beginners and experienced seamstresses
Now, you can adjust the mannequin to a real size, and this makes it easier to fit and assess the clothing you have made. This is also possible with paper pattern parts. You can use the mannequin to pin the pattern pieces before sewing. This way you will prevent sewing parts together incorrectly because you can keep an overview any time while sewing. Determining the skirt length is also much easier with the help of this adjustable dressform.
To choose the right mannequin, use measured sizes in centimeters and not clothing sizes. These clothing sizes are only a guideline to compare the size of the dressform.
Measure these 4 sizes up and put them in the mannequin search generator.
Please note: some ladies have one very different size, for example the upper width (large cup size) or the waist (for example after abdominal surgery). If you know this about yourself, it is best to omit this size in the mannequin generator. The generator also works if you only enter 3 measures.
Then you will receive advice for a specific mannequin where you can fill the deviating size yourself with fiber filling (as can be seen in the videos and on the photos).
Despite the extensive setting options, it won’t be always possible to find a mannequin with your exact dimensions. If this is your case, then choose the dressform that will be suitable for your smallest size (ex. a narrow waist). Afterwards you can apply filling for the much larger hip or chest circumference. You can find instructions about this in the video.
Matri has adjustable mannequins from many famous brands such as Siera, Lewenstein valet, lady valet and Ardis. With help of the size indications, adjustment buttons, skirt meters and clamps, your garments always obtain the right fit. You can find clear instruction and demonstration videos for most of our dressforms in the web shop. All mannequins are low priced and always delivered quickly and free.
Also pay attention to this when purchasing an adjustable mannequin.
All our models can be easly adjusted to real sizes because they consist of 8 plastic parts (also called scales). This means that these mannequins are slightly less stable than mannequins that cannot be set.
Beware of buying cheaper mannequins (via Department Stores and Hypermarkets). They often consist of only 4 parts, so that no back length (length from the neck to the waist) can be set. This will limit its use.
