Preparing the mannequin for use

The first time you start using the (Siera) dressform, you have to assemble the dress form and adjust it to your own measurements. This is best done in the following way:
your own measurements.

  • Make a list of your own measurements.
  • It concerns the chest width (CW), the waist width (WW), the hip width (HW), the back length (BL) and the neck width.
  • Check this list when you assemble and adjust the dress form.

  • Use the top of the telescopic rod A (See photo, it shows a cross) to set the back length (BL) from the bottom of the torso (C) to the lowest position (later adjust this to your desired length ). To do this easily, put the dress form down. As you can see from the pictures, you have to turn the telescope rod to the right and push it upwards at the same time.

  • Slide the 4 legs (B) to the support of the bottom of the telescopic rod. Slide if you
wish the adjustable arm (F,G and H) for measuring the seamlength also on the
telescopic rod before the telescopic rod is put in the support with the legs.

  • Now put the rod with the bottom (no cross visible) in the base (I) and push it firmly. Tighten adjusting screw E (see figure) properly.
  • Place the torso on the foot. The dress form is now assembled.

There is a scale on the bar. This allows you to set the doll so that your shoulders are the same height as the mannequin. The number you read (eg 141) just above screw E, is the number representing the total back length of the garment to the floor (minus 5 cm because a skirt never hangs on the floor).

You can measure this total back length from the « protruding vertebrae » about 4 cm below the plastic band on the dressform.

Now you can adjust the sizes using the dials.

  1. Start mid-front with the CW (red). Turn the knob clockwise after pressing it. Do not go further than halfway through the numbers. The (red) dot then points straight up. When you release the button you will feel a click in the correct position.

  2. Then set the WW in the center front (green).
  3. Third, set the HW at the center front (blue).
  4. Turn the torso and adjust the knobs at the back from top to bottom, so mid-back CW, mid-back WW and mid-back HW. Again, turn no further than halfway.
  5. Now you can set both sides: again from top to bottom CW, WW and HW. Again, do not turn the knobs further than halfway.

Now that all the knobs are set to the halfway point, you can start adjusting them to your own size.

To do this, follow steps 1 to 5 so that all buttons are on the correct number, namely your own measurements in cm or inches. Each button shows the total size, so for example CW (96 cm).

Then adjust the knob on top of the doll so that the neck size (purple) matches your own size.

Finally, measure the BL of the mannequin. As with a person, measure from the neckline (where in humans the first protruding cervical vertebra is at the back at the top of the back), up to the waist. If this size still needs to be adjusted, use the telescopic rod for this again, as described in the beginning when building the doll.

The next picture shows the highest setting. This way you get the maximum back length.
