The Singer Corporation , established as I. M. Singer & Co. . in 1851 by Isaac Merrit
Singer is best known for its sewing machines . The company ,with the familiar red S 
symbol , starting initially  small with lots of patent issues and Singer self who at 
village festivals and fairs is advertising  for the new machine . In 1856 , however,  
already 2,564 units were sold, in 1860, 12,000 sewing machines were sold . In 1865 the 
name was changed to Singer Manufacturing Company .
