Here we separate 2 types of sewing machines, find out which shuttle your machine has according to the photos:

  1. CB  hook sewing machines
  2. The horizontal sewing machines

1. CB hook sewing machines:

First, we will remove the needle plate from the sewing machine, it is normally fixed with 2 screws, loosen the screws with a screwdriver and remove the needle plate.
Remove the needle and retighten the needle clamp screw.
Now take the bobbin case out of the bobbin, then push the black clips out and remove the ring holding the shuttle, then remove the bobbin from the rod where the bobbin case used to be.

Now you have on the table: the needle plate, the bobbin case, a round ring and the shuttle (it is the crescent).
Clean all this well, free of dust or grease.
Check all parts for minor damage and imperfections and try to polish them as much as possible.
Then thoroughly clean the feed dogs under the needle plate and make sure there is no accumulated dirt.
If the machine is very dirty, blow also, for example, with a compressor or aerosol with compressed air.

2. Flat / Horizontal hook Sewing Machines:

Now we can start testing:

  • Use normal fabric and always sew at least 2 layers of fabric, one on top of the other.
  • First start with the straight stitch with a stitch length of 2.5 to 3.
  • Then you can try the zigzag stitch (the width in 3 to 4 and the length in 2).
  • Normally the stitch should be perfect.
