Thread take up lever looks broken

Problem: the machine is completely new, but the thread take up lever seems broken (see picture).

Solution:

Turn the handwheel (on the right side of the machine) towards you and the take up lever
shows (see picture below). The take up lever only sticks out a little bit above the machine and
has a slit in which you can push the thread from behind.
The hole on level on top of machine where thread goes in, is a hook type (not like older machines with a hole!).

Performing periodic maintenance on your sewing machine is particularly important.
